" 6 THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: 7 SECTION ONE: Ordinance No. 1911, Section Fourteen, is hereby amended to read as follows: 8 9 SECTION FOURTEEN: ALLEY SIGNS. No person shall erect or maintain any advertising structure which projects over a public alley, provided, however, a wall sign may project twenty-four (24) inches thereover when the alley is sixteen (16) feet or more in width, and provided further that such sign is sixteen (16) feet or more above grade. SECTION TWO: Ordinance No. 1911, Section Sixteen, is hereby amended to read as follows: SECTION SIXTEEN: ELECTRIC SIGNS (a) In addition to the requirements of Section Four, and other sections of this ordinance relative to design and maintenance of all advertising structures, no person shall erect or install any electric sign without first submitting an application for a sign permit for an electrical sign, together with data, designs and other information to show to the satisfaction of the Chief Electrical Inspector that all provisions of any and all electrical ordinances of the City of San Bernardino pertinent thereto will be complied with in all particulars. (b) All signs using luminous gases operated by high potential currents shall require a permit fee of Fifty Cents (50~) for each transformer, but there shall be at least a minimum charge of One Dollar ($1.00). (c) The fee for electric inspection and permit shall be as follows: Elec tr ic signs containing 1 to 10 lights $1. 00 Electric signs containing 11 to 25 lights 2.00 Electric signs containing 25 to 50 lights 2.50 Electric signs containing 51 or more lights 3.00 (d) No electric sign shall be erected or installed unless the same bears the label of the Underwriters' Labora- tories, Inc., or other recognized testing laboratory. All signs are to be legibly lettered with the name of the person who installed the sign, and must bear a label furnished by the city. (e) Floodlight and signboard reflectors may project not more than four (4) feet over sidewalks or other public property used only by pedestrians, provided all portions of such wiring, reflectors or fixtures are at least eight (8) feet above the sidewalks or surface below. (f) Floodlight and signboard reflectors may project not more than twenty-four (24) inches over a public alley, provided all portions of such wiring or fixtures are at least sixteen (16) .feet above such alley. (g) Floodlight and signboard reflectors shall be of a type approved for such use and shall be properly supported. Stems supporting flood lights and reflectors shall be galvanizec rigid steel c.".nduit. ~ 2. . . 1 (h) Lamps and lighting fixtures may be installed in 2 or on a canopy or marquee, provided no portion of such lamp, 3 fixture or enclosure is less than eight (8) feet above the 4 sidewalk. 5 SECTION THREE: Ordinance No. 1911, Section Twenty, 6 is hereby amended to read as follows: 7 SECTION TWENTY: VERTICAL SIGNS 8 (a) Any projecting wall sign with its advertising 9 surface at right angles to a wall facing a street shall be 10 deemed to be a vertical sign, and shall not exceed eighteen 11 (18) inches in thickness. 12 (b) IVhen the bottom of a sign is eight (8) feet 13 and less than ten (10) feet above the sidewalk, the projection 14 over the sidewalk shall not exceed one (1) foot. When the 15 bottom of a sign is ten (10) feet and less than twelve (12) 16 feet above the sidewalk grade, the projection over the side- 17 walk shall not exceed two feet, six inches (2' 6"). When 18 the bottom of a sign is twelve (12) feet and less than 19 fourteen (14) feet above the sidewalk grade, the projection 20 over the sidewalk shall not exceed three (3) feet. When . 21 the bottom of a sign is fourteen (14) feet or more above the 22 sidewalk grade, the projection shall not exceed four (4) feet. 23 When the bottom of a ~ign is sixteen (16) feet or more above 24 the sidewalk grade, the projection shall not exceed five (5) 25 feet. 26 (c) No sign shall exceed seven feet, four inches 27 (7' 4") in height above the parapet wall except that said 28 sign may return over the roof not to exceed eleven feet (11') 29 measured from the front edge of the sign. 30 (d) Except as herein provided for sign projection over alleys, no person shall erect or maintain a vertical wall sign upon any supporting wall or any portion thereof 31 32. 3. -I" . . 1 which does not face upon a street. 2 (e) No person shall erect or maintain a vertical 3 wall sign which has a projecting width in excess of sixty 4 inches (60"). 5 SECTION FOUR: Ordinance No. 1911, Section Twenty- 6 Two, Sub-Section (a) is hereby amended to read as follows: 7 (a) No person shall erect, install or construct 8 any advertising structure, or add to an existing structure, or 9 move from one location and erect in another location within 10 the City of San Bernardino, or alter any advertising structure 11 or any part thereof, or cause the same to be done without first 12 obtaining a permit to do so from the Building Department and 13 such permit may be known and referred to as a sign permit. 14 The fee for such permit shall be as follows: 15 Total Valuation $2.00 to and including $500.00 More'than $500.00 tO,and in- cluding $1,000.00 Each additional $1,000.00 or fraction, to and 1ncluding $25,000.00 Fee 16 $5.00 , 17 6.00 18 19 3.00 20 Plan Check Fees. When the valuation of the proposed 21 sign exceeds One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) a plan check 22 fee shall be paid to the Building Department at the time of 23 applying for a sign permit. Said plan check fee shall be 24 equal to one-half (1/2) of the original sign permit fee as 25 required in this section. 26 Repainting of an advertising structure, or the 27 changing of advertising copy thereon shall not be considered 28 an alteration which requires a sign permit unless a structural 29 change is made or exposed area is increased. All electric 30 signs must be burned at least two (2) hours each and every night, except Sunday nights, between one-half (1/2) 31 32 4. - 10 11 12 14 Hi 20 21 22 23 24 25 27 29 30 . . . 1 hour after sunset and 10:00 P.M. All signs not so burned 2 shall be removed by order of the Chief Building Inspector or his regularly authorized deputy or the Police Department.
