AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE N0. 1911 ENTITLED IN PART
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA, REGUTATING
OUTDOOR ADVERTISING . ." AND PROVIDING FOR REGULATION OF ELECTRIC
SIGNS ASSEMBLED IN THE~FIELD.
THE MAYOR AND COrIl~iON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION ONE: Ordinance No. 1911 Section Sixteen Smbsection
I(d) is hereby amended to read as follows:
(d) No factory-assembled electric sign shall be erected
or installed unless the same bears the label of the Underwriters'
Laboratories, Inc. or other recognized testing laboratory. Electric
signs assembled in the field shall comply with all applicable
standards as established by the Underwriters' LaboratoYies Standards
for Electric Signs, and shall haire periodic inspection as necessary
by the electrical inspectox during the field assembly to assure
compliance with said standards. The permit fee for such inspection
shall be one-half (1/2) of the total electric sign permit fee<
Each sign shall be legibly lettered with the name of the person
who installed the sign, and shall bear a label furnished by the

Icity.
Each electric sign shall have a safety disconnect switch,
or other approved means of disconnecting all ungrounded conductors
~serving the sign, at the sign location and visible from ground
'level.
SECTION 1W0: The letters and words of "Section Ztaenty-Three.
lof Ordinance No. 1911 is hereby amended to read "Section Twenty-,
Rotixr".
SECTION THREE: Ordinance No. 1911 Section T~aenty- Fcaur;,,
Iformerly Section ltaenty-Threee0l, Subsection (b) is hereby amended
to read as follows:
(b) After receipt of a notice from the Building Official
to stop sign construction wozk in violation of this ordinance or
other law, no person, firm or corporation shall proceed with or

perform such work until there has been compliance with said
ordinance or other law and inspection and approval thereof by said
Official. It ahall be unlawful for auch person, firm or corpor-
ation to maintain or to permit the maintenance of any unsafe or
dangerous sign or sign construction as determined by the Building
Official and each and every day that said sign or construction
is maintained after notice thereof and instructions for corzections
have been given by the Building Official shall constitute a
separate violation of this section.
It shall be unlawful for any person erecting, constructing,
enlarging, altering or moving any sign, to fail to call for a
final inspection by the Building and Electrical Inspectors. A
penalty of Five Dollaxs ($5>00) shall be assessed against any sign
when final inspection has not been called for after completion of
the work.
No advertising atructure or electrical sign shall be con-
sidered complete until inspections herein referred to, have been
completed,
No pexson shall erect or inatall any sign which projects
over or above any public property in any business district, nor
do any preparatory work preliminary to the erection or installation
of such sign unless a suitable barricade of heavy rope attached
to movable trestles or atandards or a board fence not less than
four (4) feet in height, is erected and maintained to keep pedestri+
or other traffic from underneath such sign for a distance of not
less than twenty (20) feet on all sides of the sign during the
period in which the work is being performed except that a suitable
space on the sidewalk next to curb may be left for passage; pro-
vided, furthex, that between sunset and sunrise, in addition to the
barricade herein required, there shall be installed and kept burn-
ing not less than two lighted red lanterns when such work is to be
performed at night.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was duly
