HomeMy WebLinkAbout2546 1 ORDINANCE N0. : ~ ~ ~ ' 2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2048 ENTITLED, "AN ORDINANCE OF THE 3 CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO PROVIDING FOR TAE CONDUCTING OF THE PRIMARY AND GENERAL ELECTIONS TO BE HELD ON EACH ODD NUMBERID YEAR ZN THE CITY OF 4 SAN BERNARDINO, PURSUANT TO SECTION TEN OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA". 5 6 THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO DO 7 ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: 8 SECTION ONE: That Ordinance No. 2048, Section Five be amended to 9 read as follows: 10 "SECTION FIVE: That the hour of seven o'clock A. M. on the date 11 of said elections is hereby fixed as the hour for opening the polls, and the 12 hour of seven o'clock P. M. of said date is hereby fixed as the hour for 13 closing the polls at such elections; provided, however, that if at said 14 hour of closing there are any other voters in the polling places or in line 15 at the door thereof who are qualified to vote and who have not been able to 16 do so since appearing, the polls shall be kept open a sufficient time to 17 enable them to vote, but no one who shall arrive at a polling place after 18 seven o'clock P. M. shall be entitled to vote, although the polls may be 19 open when such person arrives. That primary and general elections shall be ~ held at the regularly designated polling places in each precinct as 21 designated in the Resolution setting forth the number of consolidated 22 precincts and the location of each polling place. The officers of election 23 appointed and the polling places designated for the primary election shall 24 be the officers and polling places of the general election so far as possible. 25 Said Resolution shall also set forth the list of the names of the election 26 officers appointed. Each precinct board shall consist of one (1) Inspector, 27 one (1) Judge and two (2) Clerks. 28 Not earlier than the seventy-fifth nor later than the fifty-fourth 29 day before any primary election, and not earlier than the fifty-fourth day 30 nor later than the tenth day before any general municipal election, the 31 City Clerk shall publish a notice of the election at least once in one or 32 more newspapers published and circulated in the City of San Bernardino. 1 The notice shall be headed "Notice of Election", and shall contain a 2 statement of: 3 (a) The time of the election; 4 (b) The offices to be filled, specifying full term or short term, 5 as the case may be; 6 (c) The hours the polls will be open." 7 SECTION TWO: That Ordinance No. 2048, Section Seven be amended to 8 read as follows: 9 "SECTION SEVEN: On the second day after a City election, exclusive 10 of holidays, at 1:30 o'clock P. M., the Mayor and Common Council, or the 11 City Clerk, or a canvassing board appointed by the City Clerk by order of 12 the Mayor and Common Council, shall meet at the City Hall, San Bernardino, 13 California, and proceed to canvass the election returns. 14 At the next regular or adjourned regular Council meeting following 15 the completion of the canvass, the Mayor and Common Council shall declare 16 the results of said election as certified by the City Clerk as being official." 17 SECTION THREE: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of 18 this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published in the San Bernardino 19 Evening Telegram, a daily newspaper hereby designated for that purpose. ~ I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was duly adopted by 21 the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino at a regular 22 meeting thereof held on the day of ~ .-;,,~,,,~,>;i , 1964, s 23 by the following vote, to wit: ~, /~ j' ,~ 24 AYES: Councilmen p? fir,'/ ~ ,.t>r'•zx. ~!~'^'2rJ 26 NOES: /~~ ".' .''.- AB~NT: ~ -'~.> '%-~ 27 28 r 29 F v .
