2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING ORDI-
NANCE NO. 2922 ENTITLED IN PART "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN
3 BERNARDINO ADOPTING. UNIFORM MECHANICAL CODE, VOLUME'II, U.
B. C., 1967 EDITION AND REGULATING THE INSTALLATION OF
4 APPLIANCES IN GARAGES, WARM-AIR FURNACES AND ROOF APPLIANCES.
5 THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDIN0
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

7' SECTION 1. Ordinance No.'2922 is hereby amended by adding
8 thereto SECTION FIVE &'THREE QUARTERS. to read as follows:
9 "SECTION FIVE &'THREE QUARTERS: The sections and provisions)
lOl of said Uniform Mechanical Code, Volume II, U. B. C., 1967 Edition,
11~ are hereby amended to. read as follows.:
12~I Section 508: Appliances installed in garages., warehouses
13 or other areas where they may be subjected to mechanical damage
shall be suitably guarded against such damage by being installed ~
14
15 behind protective barriers ar by being elevated or located out of
the normal path of vehicles. ~

17 Where such appliances installed within a garage are enclosed)
18 in a separate, approved compartment having access only from outside
19 of the garage such 'appliances. may be installed. at floor level pro-
20 vided the required combustion air is taken from and discharged to
211 the. exterior of the garage.
22i Section 704: No warm-air furnace shall be installed as
23 €ollows:
24 1. In any hazardous location.
25 2.. In any surgical operating room or medical treatment

26 room.

27 3. Under any stairway. I
28 4. In any Group A, B, C, D, E, F, G, or H Occupancy unless
29 separated from such occupancy in accordance with Table No. 7;A.
30 EXCEPTION: This requirement shall not apply to any furnace
31 ~ installed on the roof of a building.

supported on a substantial metal frame, The housing shall be not

21 inch (6") clearance around the furnace or furnaces enclosed therein,
22 including all controls and draft divertersa
23' EXCEPTION: Furnaces listed for outdoor installation need
24 not be enclosed,"
