2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING ORDI-
i NANCE N0. 1987 KNOWN AS THE °TAXI CAB ORDINANCEt; AND INCREASING
3 THE RATES OF TOWING SERVICE BY TOWING VEHICLES BEING OPERATED IN
RESPONSE TO POLICE CALLS.

THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO
5 DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWSB
6 SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 1987 Section Forty-Two is hereby
7 amended to read as follows;
g "SECTION FORTY-TWOo TOWING CHARGES. Any towing ve-
g hicle furnishing towing service in response to police calls shall
10 be subject to the provisions of this Section „ Mileage for the
11 towing of any vehicle shall be computed from the scene of the
12 accident, incident or pick-up where the towing commences to the
13 place where the vehicle is stored. The odometer readings of the
14 towing vehicle at the pick-up point and at the place where the
15 vehicle is stored shall be entered on the invoice of the charges
16 against the towed vehicle,
17 The rates or fares to be charged the public by towing
lg carriers shall be such as are prescribed in the carrier4s permit
1g and shall not be less than the minimum nor more than the maximum
20 rates which are hereby fixed as followsa
21 A, Towing Charges.
22 1, Automobiles, motorcycles and up to and including
23 3/4 ton vehicles.
24 (a) Str~,ght tow: Recovered vehicles, abandoned
25 vehicles, drunks, etc. No accident involved.
2B Daytime - $15.00 first 3 miles; $1,00 mile
thereafter.

Nighttime - $17.50 first 3 miles; $1,00 mile
28 thereafter.

30 Daytime - $17.50 first 3 miles; $1.00 mile
thereafter.

Nighttime - $19.50 first 3 miles; $1.00 mile
32 thereafter.
1 (c) Mountain towing8 Same charges as stated above
except the mileage rate is increased to $1.50
2 per mile after the first 3 miles.
3 (d) For the purpose of this schedule DAYTIl~IE is
considered to be between the hours of 8000
4 a.m. and 5x00 p.m. Any other hour is to be
considered NIGHTTIlKE. NIGHTTIME rates shall
5 apply all day on Sundays and holidays,
6 2. Two axle trucks, 1 ton and up to 2-1/2 ton. Loaded
7 and unloaded.
8 (a) All times - $25.00 first 3 miles; $1,50 mile
thereafter,

3. Three or more axle trucks and truck tractor combi-

nation.

12 (a) All times $20.00 per hour for tow truck and
driver and $9.00 per hour for a helper if
required,

14 4. Mileage charges apply to ONE WAY mileage only.
15 5. Special conditionso
(a) Towing done in mountainous terrain during
16 periods of inclement weather and/or extreme
congestion may be charged at the rate of
17 $20.00 per hour (no mileage charge) or by the
rates set above, wh~ehever is greater,

19 B. Hourly Rates.
20 1. Standby Time - $10.00 per hour. (Time begins 30
minutes after arrival at the scene.)
21 2. Helper - $9.00 per hour, (Allowed only if helper is
22 needed and can be justified.)
23 3. Winching time - $10.00 per hour. (Included in the
winching time is the rigging and labor. Examples:
If a vehicle is over a bank and has to be winched up
24 to the roadway, If a vehicle is over on its top,
25 side, etc. and has to be rolled over on its wheels
by use of a cable.)
26 (a) Winching time is to be computed in 1/4 hour
increments with a $5.00 minimum,

28 4. Normal sweeping, covering of oil spots with sand and
gravel and general clean up at the scene is NOT
29 chargeable as labor, but is considered part of the
basic charge and is the responsibility of the tow
30 truck operator.
31 Storage Rates.
1. Automobiles.

(a) Outside storage - $2.00 per calendar day,
1 (b) Inside storage - $3.00 per calendar day,
2 a. The driver or owner must be advised of
the increased charge and must request
3 inside storage or it may be justified as
necessary to protect the vehicle when
4 damage is such that exposure to the wea-
ther would create an additional loss to
5 the owner.
6 2. Motorcycle Storage.
7 (a) Outside storage - $1,50 per calendar day.
8 (b) Inside Storage - $2.00 per calendar day,
9 3, Trucks, 3/4 ton and up including camper units.
10 (a) $3.00 per calendar day,
11 4. Truck sith trailer,
12 (a) $6,00 per calendar day,
13 5. Trailers, U-Haul type, house trailers, etc.
14 (a) $3.00 per calendar day,
15 D. Miscellaneous Rates.

1. Disconnecting drive shafts - $3.00.
17 2, Dolly towing - $10.00 flat rate, no mileage charge n~
the vehicle must beiacapable of normal towing,

19 3. Special bars for front wheel drive vehicles - $5.00
20 4. Commercial rates to be charged to California High-
way Patrol towed vehicles.
21 5. Service calls - $9.00.
22 I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing ordinance was duly
' 23 adopted by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Ber-
