HomeMy WebLinkAbout3109 1 ORDINANCE N0. 2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING ORDI- 3 NANCE N0. 3053 ENTITLED IN PART "AN ORI~,INANCE ADOPTING THE UNIFORM WIRING CODE, 1968 EDITION .9 AND MODIFYING PROVISIONS 4 THEREOF RELATING TO FEES AND SPECIAL ELECTRICALLY OPERATED IN- STALLATIONS. 5 THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO 6 DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: 7 SECTION 1. Ordinance No, 3003 Section 4 which amends cer- $ tain sections and provisions of the Uniform ~3iring Code, 1968 g Edition, is hereby amended by adding thereto the following words 10 and figures; 11 "Section 30,1. Fees - New construction and additions. 12 Permit issuance fee-$4.00 plus $,O1 per ampere for each service 13 switch 600 volts or less; $,05 per ampere for each service switch 14 in excess of 600 volts, In addition the following fees shall 15 apply to each type of construction; 16 $.03 per sq, ft. 17 a. Gasoline service station buildings, b. Drinking or dining establishments, 18 c. Power plants-pumping plants. lg $.O1 per sq. ft, 20 a. Woodworking establishments, planing mills. b. Steel mi14 Factories. 21 c, Manufacturing plants, assembly plants, d, Gasoline service station open canopies. 22 e, Repair garages, aircraft repair hangers, f. Ice plants, cold storage plants, 23 g, Creameries, bakeries, food processing plants, h. Hotels, motels, apartment houses, lodging houses. 24 i. Dwellings. j. Dry cleaning plants. 25 $.0075 per sq, ft. 26 a. Office buildings. 27 b. Stores, markets (wholesale or retail). c. Hospitals, sanitariums, convalescent hospitals. 28 d. Nursing homes, child nurseries. e. Schools 89 f. Churches, assembly buildings. g. Amusement park structures. 30 h, Any occupancy not listed 31 $.005 per sq.ft, 32 a. Residential accessory building, attached or detached, such as private garages, carports, sheds, etc. 1 b° Hotel, motel, and commercial parking garages and car- ports. 2 c. Warehouses up to and including 5,000 sq, ft, 3 $.0025 per sq. ft. 4 a. Warehouses - that part which is over 5000 sq. ft. b. Storage garages where no repair work is done. ~ 5 c, Aircraft hangars where no repair work is done." 6 SECTION 2. Ordinance No. 3003 Section 4 which amends 7 certain sections and provisions of the Uniform Wiring Code, 1968 8 Edition, is hereby amended by adding thereto the following words ', 9 and figures: 10 "Section 30.3. Fee- Swimming Pool, 11 For private swimming pools, including supply wiring, lights, 12 _ n motors and bonding $5.00. 13 SECTION 3. Ordinance No. 3003 Section 4 which amends certa" 14 sections and provisions of the Uniform Wiring Code, 1968 Edition, 15 is hereby amended by adding thereto the following words and 16 figures: 17 "30,6° Plan Check Fees - 50% of fees charged in 18 Section 30.1, including permit issuance fees, when service switch 19 size exceeds 200 amperes or 300 volts," 20 SECTION 4. Ordinance No. 3003 Section 5 is hereby amended 21 to read as follows: 22 "SECTION 5. The following titles, articles, sections 23 and provisions are hereby added to and made a part of the Uniform 24 Wiring Code, 1968 Edition: 25 ARTICLE XXVI - SPECIAL INSTALLATIONS 26 Section 260, An electrically operated mechanical device, 27 apparatus or machine which is intended or designed for use by 28 children or adults for purposes of amusement, entertainment or pl y 29 or an electrically operated mechanical device, apparatus or ma- 30 chine, which is intended or designed for use by the general pub- 31 lic, or tenants of a multi-family dwelling unit or units of four 32 (4) families or more, for washing, cleaning, or drying of wearing 1 apparel, hereafter referred to within this article as "device", 2 shall not be provided or made available or accessible for such us 3 in any place of business or any place or premises to which the 4 public or aforesaid tenants are admitted, without first obtained 5 a permit and certificate of approval from the Chief Electrical 6 Inspector and complying with the installation and maintenance 7 requirements of this article. 8 The provisions of this article shall not apply to those 9 electrically operated mechanical devices, apparatus or machines 10 which are part of the stock in trade of a merchant and are being 11 displayed and offered for sale in an established place of bus- 12 iness. 13 Section 260.1: Permits and Fees, A separate permit shall 14 be required for each device regulated by this article. The fee 15 for such permit shall be as follows: 16 Washing Machines - each $3.00 17 Dryers - each 6.00 Extractors - each 6.00 18 Dry Cleaning Machines - each 6.00 Amusement or Entertainment Devices 19 each - 6.00 20 Each permit shall expire on the 31st day of December of the 21 year for which it was issued. 22 Section 260.2; Installation Requirements. Each device 23 shall have all metal parts permanently and effectively grounded b 24 means of an approved multi-prong plug and receptacle, one prong 25 for the purpose of grounding, and approved hard service 3 wire 26 type "S" cord, Each cord shall be continuous without splices or 27 adaptors, and shall not exceed ten (10) feet in length. Where 28 the cord is, or may reasonably be expected to be, or become sub- 29 jected or exposed to pedestrial or vehicular traffic or mechani- 30 cal injury, it shall be protected by means of an approved trough 31 duct or raceway. 32 Section 260,3: Inspection. Within not more than forty- eight (48) hours after the installation of any device, it shall be the duty of any person, firm or corporation installing or 1 causing the installation of the device, to notify the Chief 2 Electrical Inspector, who shall make or cause to be made an in- 3 spection of the device as soon as practicable after receiving the 4 notification and thereafter make periodic re-inspections of the 5 device at approcimately three (3) month intervals. If approved, 6 the Chief Electrical Inspector shall issue a certificate of 7 approval, If disapproved, written notice shall be given to the 8 permittee stating wherein the device fails to comply with these 9 regulations. 10 Section 260.4. Authority to Disconnect. The Chief Electri 11 cal Inspector may disconnect any device from its source of e~.ec- 12 trical energy when such device is found to be a possible hazard 13 to any person. 14 Upon disconnecting the device a notice shall be posted in 15 plain sight on the device prohibiting the use of the device until 16 such time that it can be made safe, Written notice shall be give 17 to the person in charge of the disconnected device stating why 18 the disconnection was made. 19 The permit and certificate of approval of any such discon- 20 netted device shall be suspended immediately upon disconnection 21 but shall be reinstated, without charge of fee, upon approvalfnr 22 re-connection. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or 23 corporation to connect or cause to be connected to a source of 24 electrical energy any such disconnected device without first ob- 25 taining approval from the Chief Electrical Inspector. 26 Section 260.5: Replacing Approved Devices. Nothing in 27 this article shall be deemed to prohibit the exchange of a device 28 with any other approved device, provided the person, firm or 29 corporation exchanging or causing the exchange notifies the Chief 30 Electrical Inspector within not more than forty-eight (48) hours 31 after the exchange. As soon as practicable after notification, 32 the Chief Electrical Inspector shall make or cause to be made an 1 inspection of the new device as set forth in Section 260.3.
