2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING ORDI-
NANCE NO. 3003 ENTITLED IN PART "AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING
3 THE UNIFORM WIRING CODE, 1968 EDITION ."; AND ELIMINATING
THE PERMIT AND INSPECTION FEE REQUIREMENTS THEREOF RELATING TO
4 CERTAIN ELECTRICALLY OPERATED MECHANICAL MACHINES.
5 THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 3003 Section 5 is hereby amended
7
to read as follows:

"SECTION 5. The following titles, articles, sections and
9
provisions are hereby added to and made a part of the Uniform
10
Wiring Code, 1968 Edition:

ARTICLE XXVI - SPECIAL INSTALLATIONS
12
Section 260. An electrically operated mechanical device,
13
apparatus or machine which is intended or designed for use by
14
children or adults for purposes of amusement, entertainment or
15
play, or an electrically operated mechanical device, apparatus
16
~ or machine, which is intended or designed for use by the general
17
public, or tenants o£ a multi-family dwelling unit or units of
18
four (4) families or more, for washing, cleaning, or drying of
19
wearing apparel shall not be provided or made available or ac-
20
cessible for such use in any place of business or any place or
21
premises to which the public or aforesaid tenants are admitted,
22
without first complying with the installation and maintenance
23
requirements of this article.

The provisions of this article shall not apply to those elec-
25
trically operated mechanical devices, apparatus or machines which
26
are part of the stock in trade of a merchant and are being dis-
27
played and offered for sale in an established place of business.

The meaning of the terms 'device, apparatus or machine'
29
shall include but not be limited to any washing machine, dryer,
30
extractor, dry cleaning machine and amusement or entertainment
31
device.

1 Each device, apparatus or machine shall have all metal
2 parts permanently and effectively grounded by means of an
3 approved multi-prong plug and receptacle, one prong for the
4 purpose of grounding, and approved hard service 3 wire type 'S'
5 cord. Each cord shall be continuous without splices or adaptors,
6 and shall not exceed ten (10) feet in length. Where the cord
7 is, or may reasonably be expected to be, or become subjected or
8 exposed to pedestrian or vehicular traffic or mechanical injury,
9 it shall be protected by means of an approved trough duct or
10 raceway.
11 The Chief Electrical Inspector may disconnect any device,
12 apparatus or machine, hereinafter called 'device', from its
13 source of electrical energy when such device is found to be a
14 possible hazard to any person. Upon disconnecting the device a
15 notice shall be posted in plain sight on the device prohibiting
16 the use of the device until such time that it can be made safe.
17 Written notice shall be given to the person in charge of the
I$ disconnected device stating why the disconnection was made. It
19 shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to connect
20 or cause to be connected to a source of electrical energy any
21 such disconnected device without first obtaining approval from
22 the Chief Electrical Inspector."
23 I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing ordinance was duly
24 adopted by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Ber-
