1 ORDINANCE NO.
2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING ORDI-
NANCE NO. 1815 ENTITLED IN PART "AN ORDINANCE CREATING A CITY
3 PLANNING COMMISSION ."; REDUCING THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE
PLANNING COMMISSION TO NINE; AND ESTABLISHING CERTAIN REQUIRE-
4 MENTS OF RESIDENCE IN EACH OF THE SEVEN WARDS FOR SEVEN OF SUCH
COMMISSIONERS.

THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO
g DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
ry SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 1815 Section One is hereby
g amended to read as follows:
g "SECTION ONE: There is hereby created and established a
10 Planning Commission of the City of San Bernardino which shall
11 consist of nine members, all of whom shall be residents of the
12 City of San Bernardino. The Planning Commission shall perform
13 the duties and functions prescribed in Ordinance No. 1991 and
14 other ordinances of the City of San Bernardino."
15 SECTION 2. Ordinance No. 1815 Section Two is hereby
16 amended to read as follows:
17 "SECTION TWO:
18 (a) Two of the members of the Planning Commission
19 shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the confirmation of
20 the Common Council.
21 (b) Each councilman shall recommend to the Mayor and
22 the Mayor shall appoint, subject to the approval of the Common
23 Council, a commissioner who shall be a resident of such council-
24 man's ward, thus making a total of seven commissioners so
25 appointed.
26 (c) Each commissioner shall hold office at the
27 pleasure of the Mayor and Common Council.
28 (d) The term of office of each of said commissioners
29 shall be four (4) years, provided, however, that on or after
30 May 1, 1948, four commissioners shall be appointed for a term of
31 approximately one (1) year, ending June 30, 1949; two for a term
32 of approximately two (2) years, ending. June 30, 1950; two for a

1 term of approximately three (3) years, ending on June 30, 1951;
' 2 and one for a term of approximately four (4) years, ending on
3 June 30, 1952. Said commissioners so appointed shall determine
4 the duration of their terms by lot, Upon the expiration of said
5 original terms, their successors shall be appointed for terms of
6 four (4) years, said terms to commence on the Ist day of July of
7 the respective year.
$ The offices of the two commissioners whose terms end on
9 June 30, 1971 shall no longer exist at the end of such terms,
10 thereby reducing the membership of the Planning Commission to
11 nine members."
12 SECTION 3. One of the purposes of the foregoing amendments
13 is to provide a commissioner from each ward of the City of San
14 Bernardino and the appointments shall be made in such order that
15 the appointments upon recommendation of each councilman shall
16 first be made.
17 SECTION 4. This ordinance shall become operative and
18 effective on May 24, 1971.
19 2 HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing ordinance was duly
20 adopted by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Ber-
