2 ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING ORDINANCE
N0. 3003 KNOWN AS THE "UNIFORM WIRING ORDINANCE"; PROVIDING FOR
3 THE ADOPTION OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE (1971 EDITION); AND
REPEALING SECTION 5 THEREOF.

THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO
5 DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
6 SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 3003, Section 2, is hereby amended
7 to read as follows:
8 "SECTION 2. Those certain rules and regulations which
provide for electrical installations and which apply
9 to all wiring and equipment installed, used, maintained,
rented, leased, offered for sale or distributed for
10 use, as set forth in those certain codes entitled UNI-
FORM WIRING CODE (1968 Edition) as promulgated by the
11 Southern California Chapter of the International Associa-
tion of Electrical Inspectors and NATIONAL ELECTRICAL
12 CODE (1971 Edition) as promulgated by the National Fire
Protection Association are hereby adopted as rules and
13 regulations and codes of the City of San Bernardino.
Three copies of each of the aforementioned codes are
14 on file in the Office of the City Clerk of said City
and are identified by Certificates attached thereto,
15 reading substantially as follows:
16 'I LUCILLE GOFORTH, hereby certify that three
(3~ copies of the annexed codes entitled UNIFORM
17 WIRING CODE (1968 Edition) and NATIONAL ELECTRI-
CAL CODE (1971 Edition) are true, correct, and
18 complete copies of that certain code referred to
in Ordinance No. 3003, as amended, of the City
19 of San Bernardino, and by said Ordinance adopted
by reference and made a part thereof as fully
20 as though set forth at length. LUCILLE GOFORTH,

SECTION 2. Ordinance No. 3003, Section 3, is hereby amended
22
to read as follows:

"SECTION 3. Said UNIFORM WIRING CODE is hereby amended
24 by deleting therefrom the following sections and pro-
visions:
25
Section 50.7; Section 50.8; Articles VII through
26 XXV, inclusive."
~t 27 SECTION 3. Ordinance No. 3003, Section 4, is hereby amended
• 28 to read as follows:

?r9 "SECTION 4. The sections snd provisions of said
UNIFORM WIRING CODE are hereby amended to read as
30 follows:
31 '10.1 Change of Name. As used in this section
and elsewhere in said Code the term "Electrical
32 Safety Engineer" shall be amended to read "Chief

a. Residential accessory building,
2 attached or detached, such as pri-
vate garages, carports, sheds, etc.
3 b. Hotel, motel and commercial park-
ing garages and carports.
4 c. Warehouses up to and including
5,000 sq. ft.

$.0025 per sq. ft.
6 a. Warehouses - that part which is
over 5,000 sq. ft.
7 b. Storage garages where no repair
work is done.
$ c. Aircraft hangars where no repair
work is done.'

'30.2 Alterations and additions where no structural
10 work is being done, or where it is impractical to
use the square footage schedule, shall be subject
11 to fee schedules in Paragraphs 30.3, 30.4 and 30.5.'
12 '30.3 Fee - Swimming Pool. For private swimming
pools, including supply wiring, lights, motors and
13 bonding - $5.00.'

15 (a) Lighting Standards:
Not over 10 on a site - each $2.00
Over 10 on a site -each additional 1.00

17 (b) Outlets:
First 20 outlets -each .20
Over 20 outlets - each additional .10

(c) Fixtures:
19 First 20 fixtures - each .20
Over 20 fixtures -each additional .10

21 (d) Multi-outlet assembly (festoon type-
plug mold, etc.)
Each 5 ft. or fraction thereof .10'

23 '30.6 Plan Check Fees - 50% of fees charged in
Section 30.1, including permit issuance fees, when
service switch size exceeds 200 amperes or 300 volts.'

'30.9 A fee of $10.00, due and payable on and to be
25 received by January 1 of each year, shall be paid for
each annual maintenance electrician's permit and shall
26 be issued to any person, firm or corporation regularly
employing one or more qualified electricians for the
27 installation, alteration and maintenance of electri-
cal equipment in or on existing buildings or premises
i 28 owned or occupied by the permittee.'
29 '50.1 Standards for the Installation of Electrical
Equipment.

Installations: All electrical installations, indus-
31 trial, commercial, and residential, within the govern-
mental jurisdiction covered by this Code, shall be in
32 conformity with the provisions of this Code, all

' 1 Electrical Inspector or his designated agent".'
2 '20.6 In lieu of an individual permit for each '
installation or alteration, a monthly permit
3 shall, upon application therefor, be issued to
any person, firm or corporation holding an annual
4 maintenance electrician s permit.'
5 '20.7 Within not more than fifteen (15) days
following the end of each calendar month, the
6 person, firm or corporation to which a monthly
permit is issued shall transmit to the Chief
7 Electrical Inspector a report of all electrical
work which has been done under the permit during
8 the preceding month, and shall pay the fees pre-
scribed therefor as set forth in Article III.'

'20.10 No electrical work for which a permit is
10 required shall be commenced in any building or
premises until a permit to do such work shall
11 have been first obtained. Failure to obtain a
permit within 24 hours after commencement of
12 such work shall result in a penalty of double
fees.'

'30.1 Fees - New construction and additions.
14
Permit issuance fee-$4.00 plus $.O1 per ampere
15 for each service switch 600 volts or less; $.05
per ampere for each service switch in excess of
16 600 volts. In addition the following fees shall
apply to each type of construction:

18 $.03 per sq. ft.
a. Gasoline service station buildings.
b. Drinking or dining establishments.
19 c. Power plants--pumping plants.
20 $.O1 per sq. ft.
21 a. Woodworking establishments, planing
mills.
22 b. Steel mills, factories.
c. Manufacturing plants, assembly plants.
23 d. Gasoline service station open canopies.
e. Repair garages, aircraft repair hangars.
24 f. Ice plants, cold storage plants.
g. Creameries, bakeries, food processing
25 plants.
h. Hotels, motels, apartment houses,
26 lodging houses.
i. Dwellings.
27 j. Dry cleaning plants.
28 $.0075 per sq. ft.
29 a. Office buildings.
b. Stores, markets (wholesale or retail).
30 c. Hospitals, sanitariums, convalescent
hospitals.
31 d. Nursing homes, child nurseries.
e. Schools.
f. Churches, assembly buildings.
32 g. Amusement park structures.
h. Any occupancy not listed.

11 applicable State Laws, and the NATIONAL ELECTRICAL
CODE, 1971 Edition.'

'50.4 Documents on File: Three copies of the 1971
3', edition of the NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE are on file
~ at the Office of the City Clerk and are hereby in-
4i corporated by reference and made a part of this Code."'

5' SECTION 4. Ordinance No. 3003 Section 7 is hereby amended
6 to read as follows:
7 "SECTION 7. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm,
or corporation to install, use, maintain, alter, repair,
8 rent, lease, offer for sale, or distribute for use,
any wiring and equipment used for electrical installa-
9 tion in said City, or cause the same to be done, con-
trary to or in violation of any of the provisions of
10 these codes."
11 "Any person, firm or corporation violating or permitting
or causing the violation of any of the provisions of
12 this ordinance or of the Codes adopted herein shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction
13 thereof shall be punishable b a fine of not more than
five hundred dollars ($500.00, or by imprisonment for
14 a period of not more than six months, or by both such
fine and imprisonment. Each person, firm or corpora-
15 tion shall be deemed guilty of a separate offense for
each day during any portion of which any violation of
16 any provisions of this ordinance or said Codes' com-
17 witted, continued or permitted by such person, firm or
' corporation and shall be punishable therefor as pro-
vided by this ordinance."

SECTION 5. Ordinance No. 3003 Section 5 is hereby repealed.
