AN ORDINANCE Ai"\1ENDnrG ORDINANCE 110. 821, ElfTITI1ED "AN
ORDINANCE REVISING AND CODIF'IING THE ORiJINANCES OF, AND PROVID-
ING A CODE OF LAWS FOR THE CITY OF SAn BERNARDINO", PASSED
AUGUST 8, 1921, MID APPHOVED AUGUST 9, 1921.
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Snn Ber-
nardino do ordain as follows:
SECTION ONE: That Section 792, of Ordinance No. 821,
entitled "An Ordinance revising and codifying the Ordinances
of, and providing a code of laws for the City of San Bernar-
dino", passed August 8, 1921, and approved August 9, 1921, be
and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Section 792. For the purpose of thi8 Ordinance, the
term 'Billboard' shall mean any structure erected for the pur-
:pose of exhib iting advertising and having an area of face ex-
ceeding forty square feet. No portion of any billboard or the
lighting system or other attac~~ents shall encroach upon a
public street, alley or park way.
The base of a billboard shall not be less than
ei~teen inches or more than eight feet above the level of the
ground. The space below the bi1lboard may have a lattice work
constructed therein of such a design as not to materially ob-
struct the view under sa.id b ilTboard. The a.dvertising surfa.ce
shall not exceed twelve feet in vertical dimension. Billboard
structure shall be designed to withstand a wind ~ressure of
twen ty pounds per square foot.
Billboa.rds erected within the Fire Limits shall be of
metal on a frame with metal or fire resisting supports. Wooden
ornamental moulding not exceeding one foot in width may be plac~
around the a.dvert is ing surface and ornamental posts may be placed
where desired, but shall not extend more than four feet above
the advertising surface. All wood Work shall be painted with a
fire resista.nt -pa.int or some fire resisting material.

PERMITS FOR SIGN AND BILLBOARD: No sign or billboa.rd
allowed under the provisions of this ordinance, except as other-
wiae provided, shall be erected within the Fire Limits without
first obtaining a. building :permit therefor. Any electrical
construction appurtenant to said signs or billboards, shall be
done only under the provisions of law covering said work, and a
permit shall be obtained therefor. Cost of permi t sha.ll be the
same as for electr ic signs."
SECTION TWO: This Ordinance shall be in force and
take effect from and after thirty days after its passage and
approval.
SECTION' THREE: The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage of this Ordinanoe, and oause ~ same. to be P~blished
for three oonseoutive days in the/~~~~~~
a. daily newspaper hereby designated for ~/ purpose.
