For the past two weeks, 74 San Bernardino
youth aged 7-12 and 54 teens aged 13-17
spent five days and four nights each up in
Big Pine at Camp Elk as part of this year’s
Back 2 Nature Program.
The campers, many of whom had never been
to the mountains or camping, spent
their week learning
outdoor skills, participating
in team building activities,
and making new friends.
Everyone had a great time!
Grand Openings and Grand Re-Openings
Investment in San Bernardino continues to be strong.
In the past two weeks, we celebrated grand openings
at Self Help Credit Union’s Loan Center on Carnegie
Drive, Family Assistance Program on Highland
Avenue, a new Starbucks on Central Avenue near
Tippecanoe, and a grand re-opening following a
remodel of the El Pollo Loco at University Parkway
and Kendall.
Road Repair Project Completed
The segment repair project, approved by
Council in December, has been completed
five months ahead of schedule.
The project accelerated the resurfacing of
28 road segments across the City in need
of repair, and addressed streets with
significant asphalt cracks, potholes,
“alligatoring”, ruts, and raveling.
The $5.6 million project was funded by
American Rescue Plan Act.

Animal Control Rescues Trapped Dog
After receiving multiple calls about a dog seen and heard in a storm drain, Animal Control Field
Supervisor Andrew Fisher and Officer Jasmine Torres were able to locate the dog inside the
drain, Once the area was secure, Officers opened the drain, climbed inside, and safely retrieved
the dog using a net.
We are happy to report the dog, named Dixie, gradually began to warm up and accept affection
from Animal Services staff. Last Saturday, Dixie was released to a foster who had witnessed the
rescue. She is doing well in foster care and will be adopted once her spay surgery is completed.
SBPD Seizes Nearly Three Tons of Fireworks
In two recent busts alone, SBPD officers were able to
seize 5,800 pounds of illegal fireworks.
Both incidents were the result of traffic stops, which
prompted investigations and subsequent seizures.
Remember that ALL fireworks are illegal north of the 210
Freeway and only safe and sane fireworks are allowed
South of the 210, and
between July 1 and 4.
To report illegal fireworks,
please call (909) 383-5311.
Fireworks Options In San Bernardino
For those wanting to see professional fireworks shows this weekend, San Bernardino’s own
I.E. 66’ers will be putting on their largest fireworks show of the year following their 6:35
game on Friday, July 4 against the Lake Elsinore Storm.
The San Bernardino Symphony will be performing their annual patriotic concert and
fireworks show at San Bernardino Valley College on Saturday, July 5 at 7:30 pm. In addition
to performing patriotic classics, the Symphony will be “Dancing to the 80’s” with selections
from that era.
Good luck to Coach Xzavian Ochoa from San Bernardino’s Wolf’s
Den Training Facility on E Street, who this month will be
appearing as a contestant on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior.
Ochoa, who suffers from epilepsy, has worked at Wolf’s Den for
four years and is an inspiration to everyone there.
