Good evening,
My name is Luis Ojeda. Today, I want to talk about the great work the Code Enforcement Department and the
Planning Department are doing in addressing concerns raised by some of our city’s residents and business owners.
We’re beginning to see a positive shift in attitude from code enforcement officers. Rather than intimidating residents
and business owners, they are now focused on informing them and working with them whenever possible. This
change is largely due to a new approach from management, which is giving clear and constructive direction to their
teams.
I believe it has also been very helpful that the Planning Department is teaming up with Code Enforcement. This
collaboration allows them to explain to property owners whether their properties are suitable for a particular use. If a
property is not suitable, the owner is presented with options, along with an understanding of the potential time and
cost involved. This helps people make informed decisions and feel that the city is working with them, not against
them.
Thanks to this approach, some property owners have chosen to invest in bringing their properties into compliance,
while others have decided to move on.
I would also like to suggest integrating the Economic Development Department into this process to explore ways we
can encourage more people to invest in our city.
Additionally, I want to mention that I still plan to bring back the SB Food Fest. Now that we finally have a
permanent city manager, I look forward to meeting with them to discuss this exciting opportunity.
Thank you.
