Vernon Bridge, re-connecting the westside of San Bernardino after five years. The mariachis were playing! Supervisor Baca was leading the crowd in singing a rendition of Cruzin’! The Santa Fe steam whistle was blasting! Classic car engines were revving! And everyone was cheering! Thousands Celebrate the Opening of the Mt. Vernon Bridge! The Wait for ZEMU is Over On September 13, passenger service will begin for ZEMU – the zero emissions multiple unit, making San Bernardino the first City in North America’s to operate a self-powered, hydrogen, zero-emission passenger train. ZEMU has been in testing for the past year and will operate between San Bernardino and Redlands as part of the Arrow line. Grand Openings and Ribbon Cuttings In August, 150 new companies doing businesses in San Bernardino obtained business licenses. •Quick Quack opened its third San Bernardino Car Wash on 5th Street, marking further redevelopment along the corridor; •The Essential Barber Club opened on E Street; •The City celebrated the renovation of Guadalupe Field at Sal Saavedra Park. Futsal Court at Lytle Creek Park to Open Sept 9 The City will be holding a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of San Bernardino’s first futsal court at Lytle Creek Park on Tuesday, September 9 at 5:00 pm. Futsal is a popular fast-paced indoor version of soccer played by two teams of five players on a smaller court, using a low -bounce ball. The project was approved by the Council in September, 2024. City Seeking Input for Baseline Improvements Public Works is conducting a traffic safety study of a five-mile stretch of Baseline Street between Tippecanoe and Meridian. The study will help identify solutions, such as traffic signals, crosswalks, and bike lanes to increase safety at key locations along the corridor and help pursue state and federal funding. Community input is essential to identify needs and solutions. Please visit the City website to have your voice heard or attend the Northwest PAC meeting on September 8 at 6:00 pm. State of the City Set for October 14 All of San Bernardino is invited to attend the State of the City on Tuesday, October 14 at the Historic California Theater. This will be the first event at the California Theater since it closed to undergo a major renovation. The event will be free to attend, but registration will be required. More information will be announced in the coming weeks.
