Dear Mayor Tran and Council Members,
As Vice Chairman of the Arts and Historical Preservation Commission, I am writing to
formally express my deep disappointment and concern regarding the conduct of one of our
commissioners during the most recent City Council meeting.
During the Commission’s scheduled presentation, Commissioner Porter, your appointee, took
it upon himself to interrupt the proceedings in an unprofessional manner. He made unsolicited
remarks and presented statements as though speaking on behalf of the entire Commission—
without prior discussion, authorization, or consensus. His actions not only disrupted the
decorum of the meeting but also misrepresented the collective views and integrity of our
Commission.
While Commissioner Porter has long been recognized as a dedicated community member with
genuine affection for our city, his recent behavior reflects a troubling lapse in professionalism
and respect for both the Council and his fellow commissioners. As a representative of the
Mayor’s office, it is especially vital that he model the standards of conduct expected of public
appointees.
Such actions undermine the collaborative and respectful spirit with which our Commission
strives to serve the community and support the City’s mission. I hope this matter can be
addressed appropriately to preserve the integrity of our Commission and to reaffirm our shared
commitment to professionalism and civic respect.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I remain committed to working constructively
with the Council and Mayor’s office to ensure the continued success and credibility of the Arts
and Historical Preservation Commission.
Respectfully,
Victor Suarez
Vice Chair, Arts and Historical Preservation Commission
