HomeMy WebLinkAboutMayor and City Council Report 11-5-25 FinalThe City partnered with SCAG to evaluate recent improvements to 49 intersections along three high traffic corridors – Highland Avenue, Baseline Street, and Mt. Vernon Avenue. Preliminary results found that accidents resulting in serious injury or death decreased by 82% and the total number of crashes decreased by 50%. The improvement is due to “dilemma zone” sensors, which automatically delay green light cycles if vehicles enter an intersection during the critical period between a yellow and red light. Yesterday, the City, National CORE, the County of San Bernardino, along with state and federal partners, broke ground on phase four of the Arrowhead Grove housing development at the former Waterman Gardens site on Baseline Street. The City contributed approximately $5 million in HOME funds to support this project. When this phase is completed in 2027, the additional 92 units will bring the Arrowhead Grove complex will to a total of 414 affordable units. We are pleased to report that the renovation has been completed at Nicholson Park in the City’s westside. Hydroseeding and additional landscape work is currently being done. There is a 90-day window for the landscaping to take hold, so we expect to hold a community grand re-opening celebration in early February. SBCUSD Opens Two New Facilities Last week, San Bernardino Unified School District opened two new facilities representing a significant investment in both the City and its students. The Páxam Páxam Welcome Center on E Street provides centralized enrollment, testing, and health services for SBCUSD students and the Francis Grice Cardinal Child Development Center, on the campus of San Bernardino High School, provides innovative social and literacy learning and for young children ranging from newborn to five years old. Last night, the City was named by the Salvation Army as its 2025 Community Partner of the Year! The Salvation Army works closely with the City to provide essential homeless outreach services, case management, rapid rehousing, emergency shelter, and prevention services, as well as part of SBPD’s PEACE Team. The partnership has resulted in finding permanent housing for 54 formerly homeless families – 82 individuals in the City of San Bernardino.
