Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I am writing to express my firm support for Commissioner Victor Suarez and
to voice my deep disappointment in the actions taken by Councilwoman
Sandra Ibarra. No meeting should be used to scrutinize any person’s private
matters—especially when those matters are wholly unrelated to his public
duties. At a time when the city faces urgent issues affecting residents daily,
a leader should always show genuine leadership.
Commissioner Suarez has been thrust into the spotlight and publicly
scrutinized. Targeting Commissioner Suarez after he spoke out about this
inappropriate conduct is a direct violation of his First Amendment rights.
Retaliating against a resident for protected speech is unconstitutional.
The community will always want fairness, transparency, and respect for
fundamental rights. I strongly urge the Council to end this harmful misuse of
authority and allow Commissioner Suarez to continue the important work he
has faithfully carried out.
