Dear Mayor and City Council
I strongly oppose the proposal to remove the community’s ability to vote for our Mayor. This is our city and our
community, and the right to choose our leadership is a core part of our democratic process. Taking that right away
raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and the direction of future decision‑making.
This proposal makes me question the broader agenda behind it—whether the goal is to consolidate power, build
alliances, or secure a guaranteed majority rather than serve the public. The dais is already council‑driven, and that
structure should be more than sufficient without stripping residents of their voice.
Our community deserves representation chosen by the people, not appointed through political maneuvering. Thank
you for your time.
Sincerely
Brenda Almanza
