Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council, I am writing to formally oppose the proposal being rushed forward that would remove the ability of San Bernardino residents to vote for and elect their mayor. The right to vote and to participate in local governance is foundational to a healthy democracy. Any change that limits public input, especially one advanced through a special meeting with limited accessibility, undermines transparency, public trust, and community voice. Decisions of this magnitude deserve broad community engagement, ample time for public discussion, and the consent of the people most affected. I respectfully urge the Council to pause this process and protect the residents’ right to participate directly in choosing their city’s leadership. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Andrena Armenta City of San Bernardino Parks, Recreation, & Community Services Commissioner, 6th Ward
