Good afternoon, As a lifetime resident of San Bernardino, I am strongly opposed to the proposed ballot measure that would end primary elections and replace the current elected Mayor with one appointed by City Council. The mayor is elected by the people. This proposal appears to be a blatent power grab by City Council, eliminating the little power the people of this community hold. Removing the people's power to elect their mayor, and handing it to City Council directly undermines the democratic process and risks transforming this city's administration into an echo chamber. This city has seen significant progress under the current elected leadership. According to the San Bernardino City Police Chief, San Bernardino's crime rates are the lowest they have been in 25 years and it's homicide rate is down 68% since 2020 alone. Please remember San Bernardino once was the homicide capital of the United States. Data from the San Bernardino county website states homelessness has dropped 10% from 2024 to 2025. The elected Mayor's ongoing advocacy for local and small businesses has brought hope back into San Bernardino and has been crucial to the progress of San Bernardino's economy. To ignore Mayor Tran's influence in this city is irresponsible. She was Elected by the people, just as future Mayors should be. This proposed structure of local Government has been implemented in the city of Yucaipa and is currently seeing it's fair share of pushback by the city's residents. The timing of this proposal does not go unnoticed and is deeply concerning. Authoritarianism is spreading like the plague and San Bernardino has a rich history of resistance. Please do not let this ballot measure through. Thank you for your time and consideration. -Jessica G.
