Hello, My name is Lily Sim, a resident of San Bernardino, and I am urging the Council to slow down and put the issue of mayoral elections on the November ballot or stop this entirely. We the people deserve to choose and elect our public officials to represent our interests, serving as a check and balance on the Council's power. We deserve the right to choose our elected officials and demand sufficient time for the people to make the best choices to govern themselves. If there was nothing suspicious going on, why weren't we given more time and notice to figure out what we want for ourselves? Why must things be rushed and decided so quickly? I strongly believe that power must be checked, and every elected official should answer to their constituents. Part of that process is actually listening to your constituents and giving them all of the information that they need to make judgements and to vote for themselves. Please, either give us time to familiarize ourselves with the situation to prepare for the future vote or completely abandon this idea that the mayoral position becomes a Council appointed one! Best, Lily Sim
