will open for the second round of the Love Your Block
program. This round is looking for projects on Historic
Route 66 or using the Route 66 theme.
Individuals, neighborhood groups, community groups and
non-profits can propose clean ups, murals, tree plantings,
and other community-based improvement projects.
The top proposals will receive up to $5,000 each for their
project.
San Bernardino is one of only sixteen Love Your Block
communities in the United States and is funded in part by
the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation.
Starting on February 11, Caltrans will begin work on
a $7.2 million project to expand the eastbound
offramp to the 210 Freeway at Waterman Avenue.
The project, which follows the recently completed
on-ramp project, will help reduce congestion by
adding a third lane, retaining wall, and guard rail to
the offramp.
To minimize traffic, much of the work will take place
at night, with some periodic daytime and weekend
closures of the ramp.
The project is expected to be completed in October.
Work to replace a water line on Chandler Place
will begin on Monday, February 9. As a result,
traffic on Chandler will be limited to one way
traffic.
The Animal Shelter, which is located on
Chandler Place, will remain open during
construction - with a detour set up to maintain
access.
The project is expected to last approximately
one month, with the street expected to fully
re-open on March 15.
City Receives $1.03 Million for Police Technology
Congressman Pete Aguilar presented the City with a check for $1.031
million in Community Project Funds.
The funding will support SBPD’s Mobile Crime Prevention Program
and the installation of additional security cameras in downtown San
Bernardino and other strategic locations .
Community Provides Input for La Plaza Park
On Saturday, community members gathered to provide input on
potential improvements for La Plaza Park, located on Mt. Vernon
Avenue.
The park will undergo a renovation later this year thanks to a
partnership between the City and Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr.
The 47th annual Black History Month Parade and Festival will take place this
Saturday starting at 9:00 am. The grand marshals will be Hardy and Cheryl Brown.
The parade route will run from Graciano Gomez Elementary School, up Baseline
Avenue and Mt. Vernon to California Street, ending at Arroyo Valley High School, the
site of the community festival.
Lunar New Year Celebration
Returns to Court Street Square
Celebrate the Year of the Horse at the
3rd Annual Lunar New Year festival at the
Court Street Square on Saturday, February 21
from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Enjoy live
entertainment, food, music, art and the
famous lion dance. The event is free to attend.
