Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,
My name is Lupita Martinez, and I am writing on behalf of Coalition for Humane
Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) in strong support of Item 18: Consider a Resolution on
Immigration Enforcement (All Wards), introduced by Councilmember Flores.
I urge the Council to commit to a resolution that: Confirms San Bernardino’s
commitment to uphold all aspects of California state law, including laws governingfederal immigration enforcement. Reaffirms the City’s commitment to SB 805,requiring all law enforcement officers to display government-issued identificationduring enforcement activities. Reaffirms the City’s commitment to SB 627, the “NoSecret Police Act,” prohibiting law enforcement officers from wearing facial coveringswhile performing their duties.
Adopting this resolution would clearly demonstrate the City’s commitment to
transparency, accountability, and the protection of all residents, including immigrant
communities. I respectfully urge the Council to vote yes on this item.
