HomeMy WebLinkAboutZavaleta, Daisy_Public Comment_RedactedMy name is Daisy Zavaleta. I attended school in San Bernardino County and served this
community for many years as a pediatric nurse. I am also the proud daughter of
immigrants.
During my time working in this county, I cared for many mixed-status families. Through
those experiences, I knew my calling was not only to care for children, but to advocate
for the families who love and protect them.
Since the recent raids conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, I
have witnessed families like mine living in fear. Families are being torn apart and
children are afraid to go to school. Patients are delaying medical care until the very last
moment because they fear that seeking help could lead to deportation.
As a pediatric nurse, I know that fear like this harms children. It harms their health, their
development, and their sense of safety in the very communities that are supposed to
protect them.
I respectfully ask this council to prioritize the safety and well-being of these families
during this time. Our community deserves to feel safe. Children in this county deserve
the opportunity to pursue their dreams—just as I did—regardless of their immigration
status or that of their parents.
Thank you for your time and for listening
