The Special Meeting of the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Bernardino and
State of the City Event was called to order at 5:52 p.m. by Mayor Helen Tran on
Thursday May 30, 2024, at the Inland Empire Room at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel,
located at 285 East Hospitality Lane, San Bernardino, California 92408.

PUBLIC COMMENTS FOR ITEMS LISTED ON THE AGENDA
Treasure Ortiz expressed concern that the meeting, required attendees to pay $75 per
person, but was considered a Brown Act Special Meeting. The speaker questioned
whether staff time and sponsorship funds were appropriately accounted for.

PROGRAM
1. State of the City Presentation
Public Information Officer Jeff Kraus introduced Latrice Christine who sang the National
Anthem.
Mr. Kraus recognized the following event sponsors Transtech, Best Best and Krieger,
Burrtec, San Bernardino International Airport, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians,
Hillwood, IEHP, Willdan, California State University of San Bernardino, San Bernardino
Valley College, Assemblymember James C. Ramos, SoCalGas, and WCA.
Dr. Christopher Thornberg presented a Forecast on the State and Future Economy.
The Mayor and City Council recognized three local heroes: Jaden Daniels, who
received the 2023 Heisman Trophy; Terry “Terrible” Washington, a eight-time world
champion boxer; and Anthony Parnther, Music Director and Conductor of the San
Bernardino Symphony Orchestra, who has conducted music for films such as Avatar,
Wakanda Forever, Encanto, and most recently Oppenheimer, which received an
Academy Award.
The Mayor and City Council spoke about progress and accomplishments in the City,
including commercial development, economic growth, and completed projects.
ADJOURNMENT
The Special Meeting of the Mayor and City Council and State of the City event was
adjourned on Thursday May 30, 2024 at 7:56 p.m.
The next joint regular meeting of the Mayor and City Council and the Mayor and City
Council Acting as the Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency will be held on
Wednesday, June 05, 2024, at the Norman F. Feldheym Central Library located at 555
West 6th Street, San Bernardino, California 92410. Closed Session will begin at 4:00
p.m. and Open Session will begin at 5:00 p.m.
