To the San Bernardino City Council, My name is Arvin Santos, and I am a resident and responsible Airbnb host located in the City of San Bernardino. I am writing to strongly encourage the City Council to adopt a balanced regulatory approach that allows Short-Term Rentals (STRs) to continue operating, rather than implementing a city-wide ban. I believe in being a good neighbor and running a professional, safe, and respectful rental. To ensure this, I have implemented proactive measures that have been very successful: Strict No-Party Policy: Guests must sign a strict contract, and I immediately decline any suspicious bookings. Noise Control: I have installed an outdoor and indoor decibel monitor to alert me and our Airbnb guest of their noise if it’s high noise levels in real-time, allowing me to resolve issues instantly. Safety Monitoring: I use an exterior-only surveillance system to monitor for safety and ensure only registered guests are on the property. These measures ensure that my short-term rental remains a quiet and safe asset to the community. Beyond the responsible management of my home, hosting on Airbnb brings significant benefits to City of San Bernardino. My guests come from different states and countries to explore our area, frequently dining at local restaurants, purchasing supplies from nearby shops, and supporting small businesses that need visitors. Furthermore, this income is vital for my family, helping us manage home maintenance costs and in these challenging economic times. I urge the council to work with hosts to establish regulations—such as noise, parking, and safety standards—that allow us to keep operating and supporting the San Bernardino economy. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Arvin Santos
