Thank you, Mayor & Council. I would like to discuss a matter that arose during the last meeting. Some of the statements made and accusations leveled against Dr. Ortiz require my attention. Firstly, Kim raised a point regarding your statement about caring deeply for this city due to raising a family here. She pointed out that Oxbow is not there, despite your assertion that it was not. I have a cousin who resides near Oxbow and has experienced its consequences firsthand. Additionally, I would like to highlight that families residing near Oxbow are raising children who are developing cancer. Your inaction in addressing this issue is concerning. Refusing to acknowledge its existence is not an acceptable response. Secondly, I would like to address the comments made about Dr. Ortiz’s alleged racism. It is ironic that the same individuals who accuse Dr. Ortiz of racism also applauded James Penman when he made false statements about her. It is important to provide these individuals with accurate information. James Penman was censured for his racist remarks, which included derogatory statements about the African-American and Hispanic communities. Therefore, if you are going to accuse Dr. Ortiz of racism, it is crucial to refrain from supporting the individual who is a racist himself. Furthermore, Kim raised the issue of Dr. Ortiz’s actions regarding the first black chief and the assumption that she may have used the N-word. While I find this humorous, it is important to recognize that the same individuals who accused Dr. Ortiz of racism including you Kim remained silent when Amy Malone was called the N-word at a podium during a meeting. Your lack of response to this incident suggests a selective outrage. I have reviewed the meeting minutes from that time and can confirm that
