Good evening Mayor and Members of the City Council, On behalf of Neighborhood Housing Services of the Inland Empire (NHSIE), I am writing to express our strong support for the lease renewal of Akoma Unity Center. As a long-standing community-based organization serving the Inland Empire, NHSIE recognizes the critical role that Akoma Unity Center plays in advancing stability, opportunity, and youth development within our community. Through programs such as Digital Arts, Coding, Robotics, Hydroponics, Aquaponics, and Teen Mental Health, Akoma provides a safe, structured, and enriching environment for young people particularly those who benefit most from consistent, supportive spaces outside of school. Akoma’s impact extends beyond education. It contributes to stronger families and healthier communities by fostering confidence, civic engagement, and future pathways for local youth. These types of community-centered resources are essential to the broader ecosystem of neighborhood stabilization and long-term economic mobility. We respectfully urge the City Council to support the continuation of Akoma Unity Center’s lease so it may continue delivering these vital services to San Bernardino residents. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Neighborhood Housing Services of the Inland Empire (NHSIE) Kailin Scott Peoples, CEO/ Executive Director Neighborhood Housing Services of the Inland Empire www.NHSIE.org Click here to book a time to meet!
