Hello Council Members,
I am a resident of 320 Edgerton Drive in the city of San Bernardino. I am
writing to formally raise serious concerns regarding the negative impact of
short-term rentals (STRs) on the Edgerton Drive and Skylark Road
community in San Bernardino.
These properties are frequently used for large-scale parties that become
disruptive and unsafe, often involving excessive noise, intoxication, and
unruly behavior that necessitates police intervention. Our streets are
narrow and designated as high fire-risk areas with restricted parking;
however, during these events, vehicles are routinely parked along both
sides of the street, creating safety hazards and restricting emergency
access.
In addition, guests regularly leave trash and debris throughout the
neighborhood, further diminishing the quality of life for permanent
residents. Compounding the issue, multiple STRs appear to be owned or
managed by the same family, who have repeatedly failed to enforce basic
standards regarding noise control, parking compliance, and respect for
the surrounding community.
Law enforcement has been called numerous times in response to these
disturbances, representing a troubling and unnecessary strain on the
city’s already limited public safety resources. Despite repeated
complaints and police involvement, conditions have not improved.
Given the ongoing safety risks, repeated disturbances, and misuse of city
services, short-term rentals in this area should be banned. Our
neighborhood deserves to remain safe, respectful, and residential in
nature.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Jennifer (Jenn) Handley-Bridges, B.S.
