HomeMy WebLinkAboutMayor and City Council Report 5-6-26 FINAL2026 Homeless Point in Time Count Results Last week the County announced the results of the 2026 Homeless Point in Time Count. The results showed the City experienced a substantial decline in the number of individuals experiencing homelessness within the city - dropping from 1,535 to 1,172 - a 23.6% decrease. This data reflects a substantial commitment and effort by the Mayor and Council, staff, and community partners. Proposed Water and Sewer Rate Adjustments The Municipal Water Department will be holding a community meeting to discuss proposed water and sewer rate changes at 6:00 pm tomorrow night at Palm Elementary School, located at 6565 Palm Avenue. If approved by the City of San Bernardino Water Board, the proposed increases would take effect on July 1, 2026, with subsequent annual increases through 2030. The average customer would see a monthly increase on their July bill of approximately $7.00. The SBMWD Board will be making the decision on the rate adjustment at a hearing on Tuesday, May 26, to be held at Feldheym Library at 9:30 am. The public is welcome to attend. City Cleanups City crews in partnership with Burrtec regularly address illegal dumping of trash, and bulky items throughout the City. In the first three months of this year alone, crews picked up 788,000 thousand pounds of trash and debris – nearly 400 tons. San Bernardino residents are doing their part. In 2025, residents dropped off a total of 727 tons at the City’s monthly community bulky item drop off events. Residents can schedule up to two free Burrtec bulky item pickups at their home every year by calling (909) 804-4222. New Parks and Rec Activity Guide Available The San Bernardino Parks Recreation and Community Services summer activity guide is now available online on the Parks website. The guide features classes, recreational sports, and special events, happening between now and August for kids of all ages, seniors, and families. Summer programs will include the popular concerts in the park, movies in the park, ice cream socials, summer camps, and swim lessons.
