Deputy Director of Housing and Homelessness Cassandra Searcy presented on the California Tenant Protection Act (AB 1482), explaining that it provides rent control and “just-cause” eviction protections for tenants who have occupied a unit for at least 12 months, with certain property exemptions. She noted that, at the council’s direction, the city could expand upon AB 1482 by adopting additional local tenant protections outlined in the presentation. At this time, Mayor Pro-Tem Figueroa allowed three speakers who should have spoken during the public comment period to speak. Dolores Armstead stated she had no comment and thanked the presenter for clearly clarifying the information. Julie Pauley, representing mobile home park owners, stated that mobile home tenants have greater protections compared to other housing types.
