HomeMy WebLinkAboutMayor and City Council Report 5-20-26 FINALCity Receives $1.15 Million for Critical Services
The City has been awarded $1.145 million to
help protect critical services during disasters
and power outages.
The funding was proposed in 2025 by
Congressman Pete Aguilar and recently
approved by Congress and the President as
part of the FEMA budget.
The project will support:
•The installation of two water pump station
generators in the Verdemont area to ensure
the water supply in high elevation parts of
the city.
•The deployment of battery backup systems
at up to 50 traffic signals citywide.
Additional Funding Proposals for the City
Congressman Aguilar also announced he is
requesting $2 million in the 2026-2027 budget for
the City to upgrade approximately 3,000 existing
wired streetlights to solar power throughout
the City of San Bernardino.
This funding is in addition to a recently announced
$2 million budget request for a SBPD Mobile Command
Post and $1.7 million for modernized lift stations for
the Municipal Water Department.
The funding still needs to go through the committee
process, and then a final budget must be approved by
the House, Senate, and President. In many cases, the
funding amounts are reduced in committee.
Our thanks to Congressman Aguilar.

Crushing Work Completed at “Oxbow” Site
Crushing of concrete and rough grading
concluded last week at the Oxbow site in the
Verdemont area. Over 58,000 tons of
concrete were processed.
City inspectors actively monitored the
operation daily. Only one dust complaint was
received, which was found to be coming from
a nearby property.
The crushing began on March 4.
