Hi Council, My name is Arnulfo Nuño. Like many Airbnb hosts in San Bernardino, I have lived here my entire life. I am a structural engineer, and many local Airbnb hosts are San Bernardino natives, working professionals, and small business owners. There is a level of responsibility and investment required to become an Airbnb host, and most hosts understand the importance of maintaining a positive relationship with our neighbors and community. In order for us to host successfully, we must ensure that our guests respect the neighborhood. My neighbors have my direct contact information and can call or text me at any time if there are concerns. One of the biggest misconceptions is that Airbnb homes are meant for parties. Let me ask this: would you allow someone to throw a disruptive party at your own home? If not, why would we allow that in ours? We have strict policies in place, including: No parties or large gatherings Quiet hours after 10 PMSecurity cameras around the perimeter of the property No one cares more about the condition of our properties than we do as homeowners and hosts. Our homes must remain in excellent condition at all times, as they are professionally cleaned and inspected multiple times each week before every guest arrival. There are only a few large music festival weekends each year that bring visitors to the area. The majority of our guests are working professionals, contractors, traveling nurses, and families visiting the region. We also provide temporary housing for people displaced from their homes due to plumbing failures, leaks, renovations, insurance claims, and other emergencies. During the Pasadena fires, Airbnb hosts also helped house families who had been displaced from their homes. Many travelers choose Airbnb over hotels for practical reasons. For example, hotels often do not accommodate pets, while Airbnb homes can provide a more comfortable option for families traveling with animals or needing longer-term stays. There is also an opportunity for the City to benefit financially through Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) revenue. Airbnb already collects and remits these taxes directly to cities. Guests are charged approximately 14% in taxes on top of their booking, and Airbnb can process payments directly to the City with minimaladministrative burden. Airbnb also holds hosts accountable. Hosts who fail to meet hospitality standards or violate platform policies can be suspended or permanently removed from the platform. Responsible hosts care deeply about maintaining high standards because our homes, reputations, and relationships with the community are all connected. Responsible Airbnb hosts are not trying to harm the community — we are members of the community. We take pride in our homes, our neighborhoods, and the city we have lived in and cared about for many years. -- Logo ARNULFO NUÑO JR., P.E., M.S.
