HomeMy WebLinkAboutMayor and City Council Report 6-3-26Communications Center Opens in San Bernardino Yesterday, the County celebrated the opening of its new communications center. The 75,000 square foot mission critical building will bring over 200 additional employees to the city and centralize the County’s emergency response operations. The facility will house operations including dispatch for the Sheriff’s Department, CONFIRE, Office of Emergency Services, radio teams, and first responders from partner agencies in one location. San Bernardino Remembers Our Fallen Heroes Last Monday, the community came together to honor those fallen heroes who gave their lives in the service of our country at a Memorial Day ceremony held at the Feldheym Library’s Soldier and Sailor Memorial. Kendall Avenue Safety Improvements Underway Work is underway to install safety improvements on Kendall Avenue between E Street and H Street. The project will include a new median, storm drainage improvements, road rehabilitation, striping improvements, and enhanced lighting. There will be lane closures throughout the length of the project, which is expected to be completed in the Fall. Code Enforcement Update The Code Enforcement Division worked with the owner of a property on 21st Street to address ongoing health and safety issues. The property owner subsequently cleaned up and made improvements to both the yard and house. This house reflects the City’s commitment to maintaining safe and healthy neighborhoods by working cooperatively with property owners. Parks and Recreation’s annual Water Safety Day takes place this Saturday, June 6 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 at the Jerry Lewis Family Swim Center (831 E. Highland Avenue.) Attendees at the free, family-friendly event can participate in a variety of activities to kick off the summer season safely including: •Water safety demonstration •Lifejacket fittings •Swim checks •Family friendly games, activities, and music •Giveaways Summer Reading Program Starts Saturday The San Bernardino Public Library and the Friends of SBPL popular summer reading program begins Saturday, June 6. Intended to encourage reading during summer vacation, participants can earn entries into a drawing for prizes through August 1 based upon the time they spend reading. Participants can sign-up at sbpl.beanstack.org or download the Beanstack app to track their reading minutes, share book reviews, and gain entries for the grand prize drawing.
