HomeMy WebLinkAboutMayor and City Council Report 8-19-26A HUGE Crowd was on hand Saturday to celebrate the completion of the City's latest park
improvement project. The westside 9.5-acre park now includes two new ball fields, an adaptive
playground, walking trail, snack bar, parking lot, picnic areas, lighting, and landscaping.
Kids of all ages smiled while they enjoyed the playground's new zip line and slides, as well as
face painting, balloons, a petting zoo, and screening of the movie Cars.
Nicholson Park Re-opening a Big Success
Pedley Road Community Garden Update
Staff is currently investigating a solution for
low water pressure at the community garden.
During recent construction at the adjacent
Navigation Center site, the water line was
accidentally cut, but has since been repaired.
Staff is considering a new meter and backflow
and are determining if the proposal will
provide adequate pressure for the entire
garden.
Solar Street Light Update
In addition to saving energy, a benefit
of solar streetlights is they do not
have the copper wiring that attract
theft and require repair.
This past fiscal year, the City installed
397 solar streetlights across the City.
An additional 83 lights are slated to be
installed soon.
Staff is currently working with our
State and Federal partners to secure
funding for additional lights.
Nearly 1,000 Participate in Summer Reading Program
The Library’s popular Summer Reading Program saw strong
community participation this year, with 917 children, teens, and
adults registering across the City’s four libraries.
The program’s aim is to encourage and reward local students to
read during their summer break.
Library’s Fall Book Sale August 22 & 29
The Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library will be
holding its Annual Fall Book Sale on August 22 and 29 from
10:00 am until 4:00 pm at the Feldheym Library.
Most books, magazines, DVD’s, and music will be on sale for
one dollar or less. Proceeds from the sale will help support
programs at all four City libraries.
San Bernardino Landmark Celebrates 75 Years
Congratulations to the Mexico Café,
who this month celebrated their 75th
anniversary.
The Highland Avenue restaurant,
family-owned for four generations,
has been an institution in San
Bernardino ever since first opening
in August, 1951.
